Inspired by his father Late Shri Ram Khelawan Mehta, a freedom fighter and mother Smt. Damyanti Devi and his teacher Late Shri Palakdhari Singh, he participated in freedom movement from early childhood; arrest warrants were issued on him and his elder brother Shri Chandra Bhanu Mehta during the 1942 movement; came in contact with Late Shri Karpoori Thakur and assisted the 'Azad Dasta' alongwith his elder brother and helped Shri Vashishta Narayan Singh, a revolutionary, in seeking shelter after his escape from Darbhanga Jail; Technical Assistant, Gandak Project, 1958-61; Assistant Professor, B.I.T., Ranchi, 1961-74; Registrar, B.I.T., 1974-75; retired as Prof. from the B.I.T. in 1992 Election Result :
